VDMA OPC Vision Initiative kick-off meeting

Last year at the AUTOMATICA, VDMA Machine Vision and the OPC Foundation announced to jointly develop an OPC UA Companion Specification for Machine Vision. In the meantime, the Board of VDMA Machine Vision conducted quite some preparatory work (structure, formalities, the scope of the Companion Specification) and has come up with an approach for a structure and method.
We would now like to invite you to the VDMA OPC Vision Initiative kick-off meeting

Standardisation cannot be done within a small group, but needs the input and consensus of the wider community. VDMA Machine Vision invites interested players to participate in the kick-off meeting and to join the new working group “VDMA OPC Vision Initiative”.

About OPC UA
OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) is an industrial interoperability framework based on a service-oriented architecture. This interoperability standard is for the secure and reliable exchange of data in the industrial automation space and in other industries. It is platform independent and ensures the seamless flow of information among devices from different vendors. Furthermore, OPC UA is internationally acknowledged by the IEC62541 standard, is recommended as the official Industry 4.0 communication layer (within the RAMI 4.0 – Reference Architectural Model, DIN SPEC 91345 standard), is scalable from sensor to cloud and object-oriented. More and more players openly support OPC UA – VDMA being one of them.
Benefits of OPC UA for Machine Vision
Through the OPC UA interface relevant data has a higher reach to IT systems within the production line and the enterprise as well as a managed data flow. In connection with the industry 4.0 movement, the relevance of a machine vision systems will increase as a supplier of production data. The OPC UA interface will also provide a plug and play integration of a machine vision system within its process environment. This will further enhance growth and use of machine vision systems significantly.
